Online Business Ideas and Home Business Tips: Business Travel ...

By Anthony Rogers

Tourism stands out as the world's largest industry. Its main focus is on travel and leisure. Tourism is a collective integration of all activities and services that relate to and attracts tourists and which are also built around their involvement. Not only offline companies but every online business involving hotel lodgings, airline reservations, vehicle rentals, foods, and others are included within this category. Aviation is also a division of the travel industry dealing with air transportation. Vacationers are individuals who take a trip from their regular environment for a year or less for leisure, commerce, and other reasons.

Highly developed civilizations and progressive societies inherently systematize their products and services according to the corresponding areas of business and government. In the field of travel and leisure, the set of specialists who assist tourists in air transportation bookings, hotel reservations, vehicle rentals, along with admissions to entertainment shows are the corporate travel agents. They also give counsel on various tourist spot destinations, make travel preparations, and plan itineraries, whether by groups or by individuals. Most of their time is spent both on the phone as well as on the computer. Theirs is one of the most profitable careers.

Business travel services cater more to the travel needs of corporate employees than to vacationers. As the word implies, the travel services are for people traveling for work associated purposes. With overseas business markets opening up, this is on the rise. It has three areas: airline and travel, hotel accommodations, and food and miscellaneous. Travel packages encapsulating hotel lodgings and vehicle rentals with air fares started here. After all the innovations, nothing beats a well-informed agent.

A travel management company is not to be confused with travel agencies. They are separate from each other. The former formulates travel guidelines to be carried out by the latter. The corporation determines the rank of service workforce can fly, negotiate the fares and rates with airlines and hotels, and authorizes the employment of the corporate credit card. The agency makes the actual reservations contained by the boundaries set.

Corporate travel agents organise the actual business travel services of the travel management company.

Asian shares extend gains on stimulus hopes, euro capped

TOKYO (Reuters) - Asian shares extended their gains on Monday, supported by expectations the U.S. Federal Reserve and European Central Bank will act to support their fragile economies, but the euro fell as caution kept a firm grip on sentiment.

European stocks look set to open firmer, but U.S. stock futures eased 0.3 percent, signalling a weak start on Wall Street. Financial spreadbetters called the main indexes in London, Paris <.fhci> and Frankfurt as much as 1.1 percent higher at the open.

MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan rose as much as 1.2 percent to a three-week high, after posting its biggest daily rise in a month on Friday with a 2.2 percent climb.

Korean shares touched their highest in four weeks while Australian shares rose to their highest in more than two months. Japan's Nikkei stock average was up 0.4 percent after hitting a one-week high.

"Once again we've just seen the market prepping itself for renewed growth coming through after the European Central Bank meets on Thursday and decides what they're going to do to help restimulate the economy," said Juliana Roadley, market analyst at Commonwealth Securities.

ECB President Mario Draghi pledged last week he would do whatever it takes to safeguard the single currency, triggering a turnaround in market sentiment after a recent sell-off and set the tone for some recovery in risk appetite.

His comments raised hopes the ECB, which holds its policy meeting on Thursday, will act to ease borrowing strains for Spain and other highly indebted countries by resuming its bond buying programme.

Markets will keep a close on eye Italy's auction of up to 5.5 billion euros in bonds on Monday to see if rising expectations of bolder ECB policy moves could help ease benchmark 10-year yields.

Investors were not fully convinced, however, amid uncertainty about specific action.

The euro fell 0.4 percent to $1.2287, well below a three-week high of $1.2390 touched on Friday. It slid to a two-year low around $1.2042 last week before Draghi's comments.

The dollar index, measured against a basket of major currencies, inched up 0.1 percent, crawling away from Friday's three-week low, while the Australian dollar, which benefits from an improvement in risk sentiment, slipped from the day's high at $1.0498.

Jeff Sica, chief investment officer of Sica Wealth Management, was sceptical the optimism would be sustained.

"The problem being that central bankers do not have the ability to do 'whatever it takes' to save the euro. They only have the ability to undermine their credibility by making promises they cannot keep," he said, adding that the euro's recent strength has been based on short covering and its short term appreciation would be temporary.

HOPES FOR FED

The U.S. central bank also holds a policy meeting on Tuesday and Wednesday, with speculation rising the Fed might do more to bolster recovery, after data showed U.S. second-quarter gross domestic product expanded at a 1.5 percent annual rate, the weakest pace of growth since the third quarter of 2011.

Growth was weak enough to support the Fed's commitment to an exceptionally long period of nearly zero rates, but more worring was weakness this quarter, said Richard Hastings, macro strategist at Global Hunter Securities.

"The Fed's real catalyst comes from the most recent data in July, for Q3, which suggests a truly weaker story with greater risks of the U.S. drifting towards growth rates of 0.5 percent and nearly recessionary conditions in Q1 2013," Hastings said.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner will fly to Germany to meet with his German counterpart and Draghi later on Monday.

Asian credit markets firmed slightly, narrowing the spread on the iTraxx Asia ex-Japan investment-grade index by 3 basis points.

Oil rose on stimlus hopes, with Brent up 0.2 percent at $106.70 a barrel and U.S. crude up 0.4 percent at $90.51 a barrel.

Business Schools | Business Schools Offering PR Tips To Future ...

HARTFORD, Conn . (AP) ? Whether it?s corporate fraud , the Gulf oil spill, shoddy products or even the recession and weak recovery, capitalism?s reputation is taking a beating, but public relations executives hope they have a fix for America?s future CEOs.

The Public Relations Society of America has launched a pilot project at five business schools to teach MBA students how to handle crises and preserve corporate reputations.

?CEOs have made egregious mistakes in transparency and governance,? said Gerard Corbett, chairman and CEO of the public relations group. ?This initiative is to get executives at the beginning of their careers and understand the nature and purpose of good reputation management.?

Dartmouth College?s Tuck School of Business, the University of Maryland?s Robert H. Smith School of Business , Northwestern University?s Kellogg School of Management, Quinnipiac University ?s School of Business and the University of Texas at El Paso?s College of Business Administration are participating in the pilot project.

The schools will offer a public relations course in their MBA programs in the 2012-2013 school year and document what works best in subject matter and teaching methods. Teaching corporate communications is not new, but the pilot program intends to develop a model course offering lessons on establishing a brand, social responsibility, using the media and other subjects that will be part of a course adopted by business schools across the U.S.

Paul Argenti, who teaches corporate responsibility and corporate communications at Dartmouth?s Tuck School, said company executives need to know how to communicate to staff, communities, investors, regulators and others about a range of issues.

?If you?re downsizing, don?t try to make it look better than what it is, but communicate what we?re doing and why we?re doing it,? he said.

Matt O?Connor, dean of the business school at Quinnipiac University, said MBA programs are stepping up public relations training to give future business officials a new skill.

?If you?re the executive hiring the public relations firm you?d like to know a little about public relations,? he said.

Kathy Fitzpatrick, a professor of public relations in the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University, said the business school courses will reflect that the field has moved from communications to counseling executives on how to manage problems.

?It?s not about sugar-coating and preserving happy images and smiling faces,? she said.

The courses will be electives, but because 80 percent of MBA programs have no public relations course, just offering the course as an elective ?is a critical first step,? said Joe Cohen, a board member of the public relations society and senior vice president of MWW Group, a public relations firm.

The drive to improve PR education in business schools coincides with a projected 21 percent increase in the number of public relations jobs from 2010 to 2020, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. That?s faster than average job growth and is a response to businesses and government agencies responding quickly to news and information that move fast on the Internet and social media, the labor agency said.

O?Connor said business schools typically use case studies such as BP?s handling of the 2010 oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, deaths in Chicago caused by Tylenol tampering in 1982 and Union Carbide?s lethal gas leak in Bhopal, India, in 1984. The new course will teach MBA students how to use public relations to respond to everyday issues, he said.

?There have always been cases in the MBA curriculum that dealt with handling disasters or bad news or some problem that arises in the firm, but I don?t think many business school professors have real expertise in public relations,? he said.

Corporate fraud also gives businesses a black eye. The FBI said it was pursuing 726 corporate fraud cases nationally in 2011, and in several cases, each involved losses to public investors of more than $1 billion.

And thousands of trial lawyers are at work every day, suing businesses over allegations that their products are faulty or dangerous. Christopher Scholl, spokesman for the American Association of Justice, previously the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, said public relations has no bearing on product liability issues being litigated in court.

?I don?t think there?s any real connection there,? he said.

Environmentalists, too, say PR has its limits. Bob Deans, spokesman for the National Resources Defense Council, said businesses are doing a better job showing that they are better stewards of rivers, streams and other resources.

But the BP oil spill was an environmental and public relations disaster, he said.

?You couldn?t whitewash the fact that the spill impacted wildlife tragically,? Deans said.

Argenti said business executives also face an angry public because of problems beyond their reach such as the state of the economy. The downturn that started with the Great Recession in late 2007 and the weak recovery that followed have soured Americans on private enterprise, he said.

Bethany Kraft, deputy director of the Gulf Restoration Program for Ocean Conservancy, an environmental group, said public relations is effective when a company demonstrates it?s fixing a problem.

?PR becomes a problem when it?s clear a good image is more important than making things right,? she said.

Teleseminars | Writing and Speaking For Everyone - Gordonwalls ...

Telecourses or perhaps teleseminars are some of the best methods a data marketer offers with regard to developing great saleable content. Even though your system pertaining to developing online seminars will affect the period, you ought to be happy to invest 1 week for every hr from the very first telecourse you generate.

2. Piece of software it out 1st

Among the techniques that well-experienced trainers depend upon will be the capability to fill-in information. A number of lines will give them adequate info in order to chat for a few minutes about them. And because they may be very well skilled, they could accomplish that together with handful of problems. They can additionally grab from which they left off once they carry out. Learning this kind of skill needs numerous years of exercise. Fortunately, new producers don?t need to depend on possessing kissed your Blarney Gemstone. There are lots of free of charge teleprompter programs available. Even so, one which just make use of them you have to produce a set of scripts. Writing down what you should state will save you the need to recover it as you go, makes it easier to recover and will allow you to concentrate on the method that you are saying the language rather than precisely what terms you?ll want to point out. It makes sense a greater high quality business presentation and a far more relaxed presenter.

When coming up with the first telecourse maybe five-hundred and very first, you will find gonna be tough areas inside your very first programs. It?s inevitable. Only exercise will highlight wherever individuals tough spots are generally and provide you with the opportunity to modify all of them. Which can be another reason you must piece of software the telecourse. The software allows you to know that the updates are in reality staying incorporated over the following exercise. 6 dead in head-on collision on I-10 near Phoenix

(AP) ? Arizona officials say six people died in a crash on Interstate 10 near Phoenix after a semitrailer truck crossed the median and struck a van carrying at least seven people.

Department of Public Safety spokesman Carrick Cook says the driver of the semitrailer truck and five people in the van died in Sunday's crash about 60 miles west of Phoenix.

Two other people who were in the van were taken to a hospital in Phoenix. Their condition is unknown.

Cook says the vehicles caught fire after the force of the crash pushed them into a culvert.

The identities and hometowns of those who died in the crash weren't immediately released.

Cook says the van was registered to a person from western Arizona.

Washington, DC, tops list of cities where people curse at work

The late comedian George Carlin famously listed the seven dirty words you can't say on TV. (AP)A new survey finds that employees who swear frequently on the job are less likely to get a promotion. And the worst offenders are workers in our nation's capital, Washington, D.C.

The CareerBuilder study found some interesting and often conflicting results in their survey of 2,298 hiring managers and 3,892 nongovernment employees.

For example, 81 percent of respondents said cursing in the workplace brings an employee's professionalism into question. And 64 percent of employees said they'd think less of a co-worker who swears regularly while on the job. In addition, 57 percent of managers said they're less likely to promote someone who swears. Majorities also said that swearing makes a co-worker appear less in control (71 percent), less mature (68 percent) and even less intelligent (54 percent)

Nonetheless, 51 percent of the same respondents admitted to swearing in the office, with a full 95 percent of those who curse saying they do so in front of their co-workers. The same 51 percent said they use profanity in front of their bosses. And 25 percent of the hiring managers confessed to swearing at their employees.

Men are marginally more likely to swear than women in the workplace, 54 percent to 47 percent, respectively.

So which cities are most fond of those seven dirty words George Carlin once famously said you can't say on television?

Although Washington, D.C., tops the list at 62 percent, it is closely followed by Denver (60 percent) and Chicago (58 percent). The first major city on the list to fall under 50 percent is Phoenix (47 percent). And perhaps in a surprising result, New York is only the ninth most swear-friendly city in America, with 46 percent of workers in the Big Apple disregarding the personal language censor in the office.

And in another potentially surprising result, the country's youngest workers are also the least likely to swear. Only 42 percent of employees aged 18 to 24 said they swear in the office. And 44 percent of workers aged 55 years and older said they curse at work. Perhaps it's those middle-aged years that provide the biggest verbal challenges, as a full 58 percent of workers aged 35 to 44 said they use profanity at the office, topping the list.

Autopsy: late Falcons star had brain disease

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) ? Former Atlanta Falcons Safety Ray Easterling had a degenerative brain disease associated with repeated concussions, an autopsy report concludes.

The medical examiner's report found that Easterling's brain had signs "consistent with the findings of chronic traumatic encephalopathy," a progressive degenerative disease that can be caused by multiple concussions. Easterling died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in April. He was 62.

The autopsy report was provided Friday to The Associated Press by Mary Ann Easterling, who is among thousands of plaintiffs who have sued the NFL, claiming the league failed to properly treat players for concussions and attempted to cloak any links between the violent sport and brain injuries. The autopsy's findings were first reported by The New York Times.

"I was expecting it," Easterling said. "It verifies all of our suspicions, Ray's included."

Easterling helped lead the Falcons' stout defense in the 1970s. He played from 1972 to 1979 as a member of the "Gritz Blitz" defense in 1977 that set the NFL record for fewest points allowed in a season.

After his career, however, Easterling suffered from dementia, depression and insomnia, Mary Ann Easterling said.

"I feel affirmed and I feel at peace," she said of the autopsy report. "It made my heart hurt even more to know he suffered through that."

A Richmond neuropsychiatrist who had treated Easterling for several years said the autopsy report confirmed the specific neuropath change that is a signature sign of chronic traumatic encephalopathy.

"It distinguishes it from Alzheimer's disease or any other type of degenerative dementia," Dr. Gregory O'Shanick said. Easterling's brain injury, he said, were reflected in a "series of cognitive and behavioral changes."

Easterling's wife has said her husband had lost her ability to focus, organize his thoughts and relate to people.

Learning the Beneficial Attributes of a Mansard Roof

Lafayette isn't only the name of a simple town in France, it's likewise a trendy city right close to San Francisco Bay. Besides citizens with popular names, the French influence is fairly ostensible in different places in this city. A lot of homes here likewise have French architectural influences, including mansard roofs.

It's simple to locate mansard roofs from miles away due to their distinct form, incomparable to the normal roofs on most suburban houses. They take their name from Francois Mansart, a 17th-century French architect who drew palaces for the nobles. Mansard rooftops were extremely popular in the 1850s in Paris, and several structures in the city still hold to this time-honored design. You can notice mansard roofing on enormous mansions and chateaus; but what makes this roof design so well-known?

Not like the majority of roofing styles, mansard roofs help maximize attic space and make operational rooms from it. The rafter is fixed in a pentagonal shape like the base plate of a baseball field, with the parallel sides are a little bit slanted. Several support structures such as floor and ceiling joists, ashlarings, curbs, and sprockets aid the mansard shape.

You can recognize that you're looking at a mansard roof if you can hardly notice the upper slope. The steep sloped edges allow your home windows to be placed along the sides and present sufficient ventilation to rooms inside the mansard structure. While the mansard roof structure shares some commonalities with another roofing style, the gable, it's imperative that you understand that they are somewhat different.

In the U.S., mansard roofs can be found mostly on mansions and hotels. They are still a craze in Lafayette, particularly with condominium proprietors aiming to add more space without adding one more floor. In fact, as reported by Daniel Bromley, writer of Sufficient Reason, building owners pick the form of mansard roofing Lafayette has today to be exempted from property taxes. So although a building has 7 floors, it simply seems to have 6 when watched from outdoors.

Such was the situation throughout the 1800s and early 1900s, in which mansard roofs grew in popularity. Many look at this Lafayette roof construction approach a clever trick, while others would rather think of it as "innovative." Still, if you're living the good life in magnificent Lafayette, mansard roofs may help you save a lot.

Mansard roofs just seem awe-inspiring and are practical too. Visit MansardRoof.org and find out more about this roof style. Otherwise, you can ask a Lafayette roofing contractor to know if this example of Baroque architecture is parfait for your little chateau.

Mexico to vaccinate 10 million birds in flu outbreak

Mexico will start vaccinating some 10 million poultry Thursday against the highly contagious bird flu strain that has already led to the deaths of five million birds which either fell ill or were slaughtered.

"Starting tomorrow, we are going to vaccinate hens and chicks across the country to put an end to this bird flu epidemic," Mexican President Felipe Calderon said.

The president indicated that the ultimate goal is to have a batch of 80 million vaccinations, so that "in the coming weeks, (Mexico can) end this economic impact on poultry producers."

The virus responsible for the outbreak, H7N3, has occasionally affected humans in various parts of the world, according to the United Nations, but has not shown itself to be easily transmittable between humans.

The prices of both eggs and chickens have soared in the wake of the outbreak, leading inflation to rise as well. According to Mexico's national statistics agency, the first half of July saw an inflation rate of 4.45 percent, the highest level in 18 months.

The agriculture ministry has said poultry farming "contributes up to 40 percent of the total volume" of the country's livestock production, and the "economic loss" from this epidemic "is and will be irreparable."

The outbreak was first detected June 20 in the western state of Jalisco. A national animal health emergency was declared at the beginning of July.

Health officials keep a close watch on such outbreaks since so-called swine flu broke out in Mexico in 2009. The H1N1 virus spread into a global pandemic that claimed the lives of 17,000 people.

Spoken word artists need recognition | wsusna

Nqontsonqa is a poet who hails from Grahamstown. He also performed at this year?s National Arts Festival.
Photographer: supplied

By Nwabisa Pondoyi
Poets face different challenges when it comes to expressing themselves through spoken word as some societies do not recognise this form of art.
Reciting poetry is an artistic performance that brings words to life in which stories or lyrics are spoken rather than sung, where artists get an opportunity to express their views on religion, gender, politics and sex.
Chris Gilili, 18, spoken word artist said: ?Most of the time we are misunderstood by our societies simply because we are stereotyped. People often have questions such as how can you make a living out of words and how do you think this will establish you. Then again often they don?t know what spoken word really is, where it comes from and what it really means to be an artist.?
According to the site: spokenwordparis.blogspot.com: ?Spoken word was first recognised in the late 1980s and early 1990s through the emergence of ?poetry slams? where spoken-word artists would square off in cabaret-style duels. Slam poetry is still the most popular form of spoken word especially for young people to express their views, experiences or information that is often taboo to society.?
Onako Gubula, 14, spoken word artist, said: ?Every time I meet people they look at me and think that I?m some maths genius but really the only thing I know are my words, to me its words before breakfast, they run in my blood.?
When the society does not support spoken word artists they can bear with it but when their own families do not support them it is then that they face their biggest challenge.
Loyiso Lindani, best known as Missunderstood by her fans, said: ?My journey as a spoken word artist has been an interesting one. I have met a lot of people who believe in me, because they have read my craft before. But with family it?s different they misunderstand me, being a spoken word artist doesn?t mean I can?t think properly, that I?m not focused. I know what I want, I do what I want and I love what I do.
?I had my own issues growing up, lost my parents, dropped out of school. After all the craziness there was silence. I discovered that what I am is an artist and spoken word is everything I believe in, the air I breathe, the water I drink; it?s my spirituality, everything in me, through it I?m most honest. Spoken word is my life,? said Missunderstood.
Nqontsonqa?s journey is a different one. He said: ?People and family have always been appreciative of my poetry and to me poetry evolved from so many things. It?s a tool for social matters and entertainment; it?s a communication skill, freedom of expression and portrayal of my thoughts.?
Any form of spoken word piece can be powerful with the right emotion backing it and the emphasis kept on the speaker. Spoken word is really a play of words. There?s only one rule: make the words alive. ? WSU-SNA

Tenaya Capital Closes ?Oversubscribed? $372M Fund, Seeks A New Kayak

moneyTenaya Capital, the venture fund spun out of Lehman Brothers in 2009 with a history of backing companies like Kayak, Palo Alto Networks and Zappos, has just closed its latest fund totalling $372 million -- in its words, oversubscribed against an initial target of $300 million. Tenaya Capital VI is the company's first fundraise independent of Lehman's, with the two previous funds raised by the VCs for $300 million and $365 million. Tenaya says the fund will be used to make investments in tech companies across a broad range of areas -- from enterprise to consumer internet, as well as electronics and more -- in their initial stages of revenue growth. The average size of initial investments will be between $5 million and $10 million. With the company potentially also making earlier or later stage investment in portfolio companies, the total amount invested in the lifetime of a company will be around $10 million to $15 million, it says.

Today, even the smallest business or individual professional has the ability to generate media coverage in the largest, most sought after channels available. The key is to understand and exploit some unwritten rules that have evolved over the last few years.

Unwritten Rule #1 ? Large blog networks needs lots of news every day in order to generate the page views that pay their bills. Organizations motivated by pageviews over editorial quality are easy to manipulate.

Unwritten Rule #2 ? Most traditional media outlets no longer have the staff to find the hottest news and rely on large blog networks and social media to identify trends and news

Unwritten Rule #3 ? If you want large media outlets to cover your story or idea focus on pulling them into your story by getting coverage in the large blog networks they follow.

Trust Me I'm LyingPitching the New York Times, Techcrunch or CNNMoney with your story may be a stretch, but having them call you because of the trending story you got a blog they follow to run isn?t a stretch at all these days and it?s happening more than you might think.

Think of it this way. Let?s say you have this awesome product that you want to get placed in Wal-Mart. You can go down to Arkansas and try to get the buyer to listen to your compelling story or you can get dozens of would be consumers to go ask dozens of Wal-Mart manages why they don?t carry your awesome product.

This is referred to pulling sales rather than pushing them and it works in the new world of PR just as well.

For this week?s episode of the Duct Tape Marketing Podcast I visit with Ryan Holiday author of Trust Me, I?m Lying: Confessions of a Media Manipulator.

Holiday outlines the exact steps he?s used repeatedly to manipulate the media in the fashion described above for both good and bad.

He shares what he describes as a systematic approach to media coverage as a way to inform the general public that not all media coverage is as truthful or simple as it may seem.

The book should be a real eye opener to those in the media world and my guess is that Holiday has a few enemies among the bloggers and media companies he attempts to expose.
The book is must read for PR professionals, bloggers, PR students, business owners and, I suspect, those that want to manipulate the media in this way. My guess is there?s an Internet Marketing guru out there somewhere dreaming up a get rich quick program based on Holiday?s book as we speak.

(AP Photo/Louis Lanzano, File)

(AP) ? Media mogul Rupert Murdoch has resigned as a director of a number of News Corp. subsidiary boards in Britain and the United States, a spokeswoman confirmed Saturday.

Murdoch stepped down this past week as a director of NI Group, Times Newspaper Holdings and News Corp. Investments in the U.K., said Daisy Dunlop, spokeswoman for News Corp.'s British arm, News International. The companies oversee Britain's newspapers The Sun, The Times, and The Sunday Times.

It was not immediately clear which of News Corp.'s U.S. boards Murdoch had left. Britain's Telegraph newspaper, which first reported the news late Saturday, said those details had not yet been disclosed by the US Securities and Exchange Commission.

News International sought to play down the significance of the resignations, saying in a statement that "this is nothing more than a corporate housecleaning exercise prior to the company split."

That was a reference to News Corp.'s announcement June 28 that it would separate its publishing business from its much more profitable media and entertainment business ? forming two distinct, publicly traded companies. Under those proposed changes, Murdoch, 81, will chair both of the companies, although he would continue as chief executive of the media and entertainment company only.

Saturday's announcement suggests that Murdoch may be distancing himself from his British newspaper interests, which have been shaken to the core by a widespread phone hacking scandal.

The scandal erupted anew last year when it emerged that Murdoch's now-defunct News of the World tabloid had systematically hacked voicemails of politicians and celebrities. The revelations have rocked Britain's establishment and triggered three parallel police investigations that have resulted in more than 40 arrests.

Illegal eavesdropping allegations at the News of the World led to the resignation of Rebekah Brooks, then-CEO of News International, who has been accused of perverting justice in the scandal.
