, November 17, 2012 7 p.m.

Bay City Western sisters Krissy and Chelsea Harmon made the finals in four individual events, and swam in the 400-yard freestyle relay, as the Warriors placed 12th at the Division 2 state swimming and diving championships at Oakland University on Saturday.

?They did the school proud,? Bay City Western coach Brad Schabel said. ?They have been fabulous swimmers for us ? they did exactly what we expected them to do and they had a great end to the season.?

Holland won the title with 311.5 points, followed by Ann Arbor Skyline (225.5) and Grosse Pointe South (190). Western scored 52 points.?

Sophomore Krissy Harmon finished third in the 500 freestyle (5:01.88) and seventh in the 200 freestyle (1:55.49), while junior Chelsea Harmon was eighth in the 50 freestyle (24.66) and 16th in the 100 freestyle. The Warrior?s 400 freestyle relay team of sophomore Malorie Owczarzak, senior Kayleigh Rubis, and the Harmons finished 11th.

Schabel, in his seventh year as coach, said this team was ?the best I have had? and that the two Harmons each set personal best and school records during the two-day event, as did the relay team.

?What was nice today is that they held their times,? Schabel continued, adding that he is excited about the Harmons and the team?s future. ?They had such a tremendous work ethic, come to practice every day. They are good leaders on the team. I just let them loose and don?t need a lot of coaching.?

Fenton senior Haley Shaw finished fourth in the 200 individual medley (2:07.90) and fourth in the 100 backstroke (57.00), junior Gabrielle Haaraoja was 11th in the 50 freestyle and 11th in the 100 freestyle, and the 400 freestyle relay team of Haaraoja, junior Lauren Davis, sophomore Meagan Cassner and Shaw finished 14th. Fenton finished 14th with 48 points.

SAGINAW

Saginaw Heritage senior Riley Hilbrandt finished fourth in the 100 breaststoke (1:05.51) and sixth in the 200 IM (2:08.38). The 200 free relay team of sophomore Michele Smock, Hilbrandt, and seniors Claire Woodrow and Taylor Musselman finished 15th. Saginaw finished 21st with 32.

"It was outstanding that Riley made all-state in both her swims, as she did last year. She has been real consistent. She was all-state as a freshman," Heritage coach Kent Howenstine said. Hilbrandt will be attending University of Nevada at Reno next year and continuing swimming, Howenstine said.

Holly senior Courtney Konopitski finished 14th in the 100 freestyle and 16th in the 50 freestyle.
