Male student gang-raped by muslim youth for cross-dressing. University: "Don't cross dress. You'll provoke it"

It's unclear from this story precisely what the response of the uni was. The headline states that dressing in drag has been banned (which may or may not include cross-dressing), yet the story only references them stating that doing so might provoke certain elements. Perhaps the statement could be clearer, I don't know without more complete information. However, they have an obligation to try to protect the safety of their students, regardless of the cause of the threat to their safety. At many colleges, women are advised not to walk to isolated parking facilities or home without company or escort at certain hours. This isn't blaming them for doing so if they should be assaulted in that event, but alerting them to a tangible danger in the community, and what they can do to minimize their risk.

I'm not suggesting this is all to this complex issue or their response to it, just that there are valid reasons for a uni issuing such warnings beyond inappropriate moralizing.

ps. Please shorten your thread titles.
