Birdeez Helps You Name That Bird

Did you ever wonder what birds share your environment? The iPhone app Birdeez by EcoLek will help you find out, if you are in California.

?Birdeez is designed to be the easiest and most fun way to identify, collect and share birds,? Jeff Simeon, CEO, EcoLek, told RESCUECOM. ??We use your location and the date to create a personalized list of birds seen near you, so even before you search we know what birds you are likely to see. After that, we make the search really simple. Choose a bird?s shape, size and color. With just these few inputs and your location, we can give you a short list of birds that are appropriate, and help you learn more about the birds in your area.?

?We started this company because we are really interested in getting people outside and learning,? he continued. ?The goal for the apps we build is to help people learn about nature whenever they have an interesting experience. We think that birds are a great place to start because everyone has seen a cool-looking bird and wondered what type it is. Now with Birdeez, as soon as you wonder, you can figure it out.?

The uniqueness of Birdeez is that you can search data associated with your location, as well as keep track of birds you see. This educational app also adds to the database for other Birdeez users.

Share sightings easily on Twitter with a few taps. ?We will integrate more social networks soon, but Twitter seemed the most appropriate place to start,? Simeon noted.

?Birdeez recently won a DEMOgod Award from the DEMO conference in Silicon Valley,? Simeon shared. ?This was a great honor and recognition of our unique app and value proposition. We were lucky enough to have a live falcon on stage with us, an American Kestrel. This is a little bird, but I think it really brought the message home that amazing birds are around us all the time. Anyone paying attention can usually find an American Kestrel nearby, but I wouldn?t be surprised if many in the audience had never realized that this type of falcon lives all around us.?

?Birdeez is free for a limited time on the iTunes app store,? he added. ?Currently, it includes 80 species of birds for the state of California, but we are working on getting more birds and more states in there every day. Birdeez works on iPhone and iPads with 3G or 4G connectivity, but it needs iOS 5 or 6 and a device with GPS, so iPod touch and iPad WiFi are not compatible. We?re working on getting on to these platforms as well, and are looking forward to getting on to Android and other mobile platforms, too.?
